Buckeye Steel
One of the most rapidly growing manufacturers on the South Side, Buckeye Steel was a prime example of the industrialization of Columbus. the working conditions were hard, and at one point the company had an employee turnover rate of 300 percent. Despite this, the company grew from 400 employees in 1904 to 2000 in 1916.
German Shooting Club
Located in the heart of what is now Merion Village, the old German shooting club is now the food pantry for St. Luke’s Church.
Past and Present: 743 Parsons Avenue
743 Parsons Avenue has long been a gathering place for the community. Since 1939 it has been home to Plank’s Cafe and Pizzeria.
Past and Present: The Last Hungarian
Margaret Leonardo is said to be one of the last Hungarians living in the South Side’s Hungarian Village.
