Jerrie Mock became the first woman to fly solo around the world in 1964, in her single-engine Cessna 180 plane, the “Spirit of Columbus.” Her journey began at Port Columbus International Airport on March 19 and took 29 days. She attended The Ohio State University for aeronautical engineering and lived in Bexley.
